ABOUT AMSA
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is responsible for the safety of international shipping and domestic commercial vessels, protection of the environment from ship sourced pollution and search and rescue nationally. Our operations are diverse; from regulating fishing boats to 345 metre liquefied natural gas tankers, and everything commercial in between. We help protect Australia’s precious marine environments like the Great Barrier Reef from the impacts of shipping, and rescue people in distress in waters surrounding Australia. AMSA’s functions include vessel and seafarer safety, incident management and responding to ship sourced pollution events.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Working as part of a team of trained professionals in Canberra, our Search and Rescue Officers are responsible for the operation of AMSA Response Centre systems, performing a range of critical services within the community. Search and Rescue Officers respond to marine and aviation search and rescue incidents, undertake maritime assistance services functions and triage reports relating to marine pollution, ship safety, seafarer welfare and the status of AMSA’s aids to navigation network as part of the AMSA integrated operations capability.
As a team member working in the AMSA Response Centre in Canberra, Search and Rescue Officers you will:

The position is based in Canberra (employees on call need to be available to attend the office within in one hour of a call out). The position will assist with engagement activities with State and Territory Agencies and may include some interstate travel.
ABOUT THE PERSON
You will need to hold relevant aviation, maritime or search and rescue experience as outlined in the maritime or aviation position descriptions.
The right candidate will be passionate about contributing to saving lives, comfortable managing multiple concurrent tasks and working at a fast pace, whilst using your proven experience in critical decision making and relationship building. Save more lives than lives at risk.

SELECTION PROCESS TIMING
The selection process for our Search and Rescue Officers will take place in April 2022, with an anticipated start date of 20 June 2022. It is expected that interviews and assessments will be held in April at our Canberra office. Shortlisted candidates will need to available for up to 2 hours for interview and practical assessments in Canberra.
