Yarning with our Mob – Trent Young

Tell us about you and your mob?

I grew up in Western Qld on Mandandanji country.  But my indigenous roots trace back to the Koa people of the Winton district where my Pop was born and grew up.

Tell us about your career?

Fortunately over the last 20 years to have built a business with my brother unloading and loading shipping containers. This has seen us work with a number of large retailers and logistics companies to provide this service. Prior to this i did spend time as an engineer and for a few years played Rugby League in Sydney.

What pathway did you take?

I just kept challenging my self moving cities and getting out of my comfort zone to take on bigger challnges.  I guess this enabled me to keep building capability to take on more responsibility and achieve more.

What skills do you need to succeed in your role?
Curiosity and a thirst for growth have always served me well in problem-solving.  This all starts with good questions no matter what you face.

What is the deadliest thing about your career?

Working with so many great people and seeing others grow in our business as well.  Seeing unseen talent thrive, people who dont see value in themselves or others have walked past it.. Is really fulfilling especially when we have Mob getting after their best version in our community.

What career advice would you give your mob?

Give things a crack, sure you will fail sometimes, but its only failure if you fail to learn from the experience.
