Work Health, Safety and Environment Officer

  • Opportunity to coordinate a high standard of WHS&E related activities and compliance standards are met across North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.
  • Full Time (1.0 FTE), Maximum term from February 2025 to February 2026
  • Salary from $86K + super + salary packaging

The Work Health, Safety and Environment Officer plays a key role in developing a positive safety culture across the organisation. They will provide onsite specialist advice, technical support and development of safety policies and procedures across the organisation including incident investigation, hazard management and audit tasks as required.

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria’s largest independent, locally governed and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in our community.

What are PHNs?

PHNs have been established with two key objectives:

  • Increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of services for community members, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes
  • Improving coordination of care to ensure people receive the right care in the right place, at the right time

A typical week may include:

  • Manage the organisation’s Work, Health, Safety & Environment related activities are in place and identified issues are rectified within a reasonable period.
  • Assess, monitor, and escalate risk as necessary and ensure that the Quality & Risk Manager and Executive Director, Systems are advised of any serious incident or dangerous occurrence immediately.
  • Conduct regular planned and unplanned workplace site inspections and safety audits according to the audit schedule.
  • Engage with staff to facilitate, support, and embed sustainability into organisational practices.
  • Ensure information on WHSE noticeboards is up to date – e.g., HSR, Wardens and First Aid Officers details, WHSE data, emergency contact information, spotlight on issues, names of key policies and procedures.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Formal qualification (Cert IV or higher) in Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) and / or demonstrated recent experience in effectively undertaking a key HSE role in the workplace.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements, and environmental and sustainability.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Ability to be professional, resourceful, and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise.
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Have the attention to detail, well-organised and comfortable in managing and prioritising multiple tasks.
