Wellbeing and Cultural Safety Coordinator

- Base Salary from $99,455 – $118,267 (HEO6/7) + 17% superannuation

This position is a Targeted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Position. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. This Exemption is claimed under Section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

As the Wellbeing and Cultural Safety Coordinator, you will provide leadership in best-practice mental health and clinical support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, shaping community outreach approaches. You will also have the opportunity to increase community engagement by developing partnerships and through events and outreach programs, increasing reach to at risk students. You will have the opportunity to help foster a culturally safe and accessible environment for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students, creating a safe space to seek support.
This role will be split between Student Wellbeing Services and the Gadigal Centre and the jobholder may be required to travel to the University’s satellite campuses in NSW.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- join a dynamic, diverse and passionate team reporting into the Manager, Wellbeing Services
- with a particular focus on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, ensure effective student at risk management processes are in place
- provide brief interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students or connect them with ongoing internal and external academic and wellbeing services and support
- partner with relevant PVC (Student Life) staff or other key stakeholders to achieve program development goals and delivery of individual or group wellbeing-related initiatives
- lead and coordinate initiatives aimed at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- proactively engage with culturally relevant services to enable collective support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students (e.g. Gadigal Centre)

Required:
- Tertiary qualifications and relevant experience working as a mental health clinician (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Nursing, Occupational Therapy) or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience required
- hold a full unrestricted NSW Driver license and a willingness to travel across the university’s satellite campuses in NSW as required.
- hold a valid paid Working with Children Check.
About you
- experience working within suicide prevention or a clinical mental health setting (inpatient or community based)
- demonstrated first-hand lived experience and engagement in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities
- ability to initiate and manage complex projects within outreach programs
- demonstrated case management experience in responding to individuals presenting in crisis.
The successful candidate will either be offered a HEO6 Wellbeing and Cultural Safety Officer or HEO7 Wellbeing and Cultural Safety Coordinator role based on skills and experience.
