About this Role

As Team Leader, First Nations Engagement (A06) you will:

  • Ensure the department includes the views and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people when planning and managing resources
  • Undertake research and analysis to support development of policy and strategy to inform best practice stewardship of the state’s finite resources.
  • Contribute and support preparation of complex reports, submissions, presentations, speeches, publications, correspondence, etc
  • Provide advice on strategic policies, regulatory issues and approaches to optimise sustainable outcomes.
  • Lead and support the implementation of communication strategies through information sheets, PowerPoint presentations and other material.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other levels of government, industry, and non-government organisations to negotiate and achieve policy outcomes and deliver on government commitments.
  • Represent the department at meetings, committees and interdepartmental working groups as required.
  • Exercise judgement to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Provide quality assurance for all correspondence and documents.
  • Operate in a highly sensitive, commercially confidential environment having regard to probity, commercial and legal implications of any decisions made.
  • Lead, mentor, coach and develop the team to ensure skills, motivation and ability to respond to service delivery requirements and perform to a high level of skill and expertise.
  • Other duties as directed and required.

Role requirements

  • There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, the following would be highly regarded:
    • This is a targeted position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.
    • Knowledge of and experience in engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is highly desirable. Experience or qualifications in water management, communication or engagement disciplines would be advantageous.
    • A track record of managing stakeholder engagement for complex policy-related projects and delivering strategic communication services and products.
    • An ability to develop strategy and policies to deliver on government objectives and promote positive community outcomes.
  • Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods.
