As the Strategic HR Partner for the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), you’ll work closely with senior leaders at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) research Unit and across ACDP.
AAHL, a key component of Australia’s biosecurity system, operates as the national reference laboratory for emergency animal diseases and maintains several international reference designations. It provides diagnostic and research capabilities, manages biocontainment, animal studies, quality assurance, and training, and collaborates with various agencies to protect Australia’s livestock and public health from emerging infectious disease threats.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Strategic Partnering – Environment, you’ll be joining a dedicated team of Strategic HR Partners within CSIRO, who contribute to business unit strategy, and address people matters critical to business success. Your proven expertise in strategic and generalist HR roles along with change management experience will be crucial as you lead senior stakeholder discussions and craft effective strategies. Equally important is your ability to challenge and support leaders, influence decisions, and manage risks, which will be vital in driving positive outcomes.

Your duties will include:

  • Engage and Partner with senior leaders to understand CSIRO business needs, provide strategic advice and broker people services and initiatives.
  • Be a proactive participant on applicable leadership teams, advising on people matters.
  • Provide input into business unit strategy and people matters relevant to business success, such as talent development, succession, workforce and operational planning, organisational design.
  • Understand business needs and translate business unit strategy and requirements into the People plan to guide the People Teams effort.
  • Support senior leaders to deliver organisational change in their respective business units, monitor the impact of business decisions on people and support the development of the desired employer brand and culture.
  • Challenge the business to ensure integrated people strategy, talent strategy approach, and fair people management.
  • Combine internal expertise with the knowledge of the latest trends in HR to suggest appropriate solutions to business unit challenges.

Location: Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), Geelong Vic.Salary: AU$126,313 – AU$148,014 plus 15.4% superannuation + ACDP Site Allowance $972 p.a.Tenure: Specified term of 12 months Reference: 97976

To be considered you will need:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resource Management, Business Management, or other relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a role providing generalist and strategic HR advice on a range of complex HR, organisational and employee relations issues , and supporting senior executives across the employment lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead conversations with senior stakeholders, balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, to articulate business needs and develop an appropriate strategic response.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge, coach and hold leaders to account, and influence critical stakeholders i.e., managerial courage.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and opportunity of identified strategies, options and actions, and have a clear understanding of when to escalate issues to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills exemplified by strong partnerships and a history of delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Extensive change management experience in an organisation of comparable size and complexity, with the ability to deliver high quality outcomes.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, ability to prioritise competing demands, and attention to detail, evidenced by high-level reporting, presentation and negotiation abilities.

Eligibility

Applications for this position are open to Australian Citizens only, appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements including Security Assessment/Microbiological Security Requirements for Personnel Working on the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) Site.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 Australian Government Security Clearance. CSIRO utilises the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency to conduct its security clearances. Further information regarding security clearances may be found at http://defence.gov.au/AGSVA/resources.asp. To obtain an Australian Government security clearance, 10 years’ worth of background information verifiable by independent and reliable sources is required.

To be eligible for this position you must be willing and able to work within the “Secure Area” of the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness. Working within this area will impose restrictions which may affect your lifestyle such as contact with certain types of animals or access to land where these animals are kept.

We work flexibly at CSIRO, offering a range of options for how, when and where you work. However, with this role, a minimum of 3-4 days per week are required to be based on site.
