Skilled Labourer – Bush Care Regenerator (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander)

About the role
This is a permanent/Part-time position working 22 hours per week from Council’s Bomaderry Works Depot. Working as part of our Bushcare Team, this role is responsible for bush regeneration activities to support the Shoalhaven Volunteer Bushcare program including weed control, propagation, revegetation and small construction projects.

This is a designated Aboriginal position as authorised by Shoalhaven City Council’s EEO Management Plan and Aboriginal Employment Strategy in accordance with Part 9A of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Duties
Reporting directly to the Ganger – Bushcare Regenerator, the focus of this position is to:

  • Undertake weed control of environmental weeds
  • Undertake seed collection, propagation and revegetation
  • Undertake small construction/carpentry projects
  • Operate allocated plants such as, water carts and herbicide sprayers, and hand tools and machinery such as, chainsaws, pumps, brush cutters and herbicide spraying equipment, etc.
  • Undertake worksite risk assessments
  • Safely use chemicals with a clear understanding of chemical actions
  • Complete standard paperwork such as timesheets, pesticide use records, site safety risk assessments, etc.
  • Read, interpret and implement plans
  • Deliver quality workmanship in all tasks
  • Assist in educational field days where required

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Certificate 2 in Conservation and Land Management (CLM)
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Current National WHS Construction Induction Card, or ability to obtain upon appointment.
  • Current AQF3 chemical user qualification ‘Prepare and apply chemicals’ and ‘Transport, handle and store chemicals’, or ability to obtain upon appointment
  • Demonstrated understanding of the protection and preservation of potential Aboriginal cultural sites and places
  • Demonstrated strong connection to the Aboriginal communities within the Shoalhaven Local Government Area
  • Ability to undertake outdoor construction and or maintenance activities e.g., boardwalks, sign installation, fencing, erosion control
