About the Opportunity
The Safeguarding Officer is part of the Global Safeguarding team responsible for the coordinated global program to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all staff, representatives, partners, participants, and anyone with whom Abt interacts worldwide, especially children and adults at risk. The Safeguarding Officer will focus on safeguarding strategies, capacity, and incident management set out by the Safeguarding Center of Expertise for all program locations. The Safeguarding Officer will provide detailed guidance and ongoing technical safeguarding support to program country-based teams and partners to strengthen best practices, tools, and implementation of strategies for safeguarding. The Safeguarding Officer role also has intersecting responsibilities for the Abt Australian and Britain Work Health and Safety and Security (WHSS) framework implementation, processes, and incident management.
The Safeguarding Officer will be responsible for:
- As part of the HR Safeguarding Center of Expertise (CoE) work across divisions and departments to ensure adoption of safeguarding principles and procedures, and compliance with Client requirements throughout Abt
- Establish a culture of safeguarding, child protection and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment through procedures, trainings, communications, and reporting, Including keeping policies and procedures up to date
- Maintain and cultivate a strong network of Safeguarding Focal Points across Abt’s Australia and Britain programs to support consistent and effective safeguarding protocols, learning, and training and drafting operations manuals; in coordination with the OGA safeguarding community of practice approach of the CoE
- Participate in investigations into reported concerns, including setting investigation terms or reference, coordinating appointing Investigation Managers or Independent (external) Investigators for each case, or serve as the Investigation Manager for cases where appropriate/necessary for both safeguarding and WHSS
- Support the Program Safeguarding Staff and Focal Points in strengthening partner capacity, case reports, and ensure the client timelines for effective reporting and management are maintained
- Support Program Safeguarding staff and Focal Points in change management in relation to emerging developments and innovations related to Safeguarding CoE and WHSS, ensure new tools, frameworks or procedures are designed and delivered in a manner that builds on existing organizational structures and processes and are coherent with other major change efforts
- Provide technical assistance to the business development team to strengthen proposals and to ensure donor safeguarding requirements are being addressed effectively
- Support the transition to the Global Development Group Safeguarding approach and ensure collaboration with other areas of accountability and responsibility within the framework
About You
We are seeking an individual who will bring:
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English. Professional working proficiency in other languages would be an asset.
- Degree in global development, social work or another related field and 10 years of experience.
- Experience working in Work Health and Safety is desirable
