About Red Nose

Red Nose is Australia’s leading authority on safe sleeping and safe pregnancy advice and has been a key provider of bereavement support following pregnancy, infant and child loss for over 30 years. We work hard to ensure parents whose baby or infant dies suddenly or unexpectedly can access appropriate bereavement support and care, regardless of where they are based in Australia.

Our Bereavement Services Team provides specialised bereavement support free of charge to any person affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child during pregnancy, birth, infancy, or childhood. This includes professional counselling, support groups, peer support, our 24/7 Support Line, and other community-based support activities.

About the Role

There are some jobs that are remembered forever – where the impact you have is profound. This is your opportunity to join a team that makes a difference in the lives of families following pregnancy and infant loss.

This role involves supporting individual families in the first six months of the loss to move through the myriad of difficult tasks associated with the death of their baby from stillbirth, termination for medical reasons, neo-natal death or SUDI.

This role will be vital to providing support to families living in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia, and as such, will be predominantly connecting with families online or via phone.

About You

You currently live, or have lived in a regional, remote or rural area and have an understanding of the unique issues those areas may bring.  You also have a lived experience of the loss of a baby or child and you understand the complex journey grieving parents undertake when they experience the death of a baby.

You are far enough through your own journey to be able to listen and support others in their grief whilst managing your own, and your energy, compassion and parent-centred approach to supporting others will be the keystone to your success in this role. You will use your empathy and organisational skills to support bereaved families through the first months of adjusting to life without their baby and guide them to ongoing supports in the community.

You have tertiary qualifications in Health, Community, Social Services or demonstrated competence and experience to that level.  You have a background in counselling, social work or other relevant experience in supporting bereaved families, and can demonstrate engagement of families with specific needs, such as those in rural and remote areas.

Your application will be subject to police, working with children and referee checks.

Red Nose is proudly inclusive and our goal is for our workforce to reflect the diverse community we serve. We continually seek to employ people of any gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, and those from varied cultural backgrounds.
