Justice Connect’s Not-for-profit Law is Australia’s only dedicated community legal service for not-for-profits and charities. Our acclaimed self-help website (www.nfplaw.org.au) has over 300 legal resources and is the foundation of our service model. We offer legal advice and educational services to organisations across Australia, and advocate for improved standards and legal frameworks for the not-for-profit sector.
We also run a certified legal training social enterprise and deliver a dedicated service for Local Aboriginal Land Councils in NSW.
Our ideal candidate
You’ll bring to the team experience in the following areas:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner.
- Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, as well as Microsoft SharePoint and Teams.
- Database and client file management skills (experience with CRM systems, in particular Microsoft Dynamics, highly desirable) and an interest and aptitude for analysis, data mining and presentation of data in a meaningful manner
- An aptitude for problem solving including the use of initiative, creativity, humour and people skills to achieve positive outcomes.
- Highly motivated and professional with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work in a team.
Expertise that you have that would support our team:
- Bachelor of Laws Degree (or final or near-final year student enrolled in Bachelor of Laws/JD), or other relevant qualification or experience.

What you will achieve in the role
As a dynamic, well-organised person with excellent attention to detail and great oral and written communication skills, you will play a central role in the team.
You’ll:
- Work closely with not-for-profit organisations by phone and email to take clear and comprehensive instructions
- Provide critical administrative support to a team of lawyers providing legal services to not-for-profit organisations by:
- Triaging new enquiries (including the assessment of matters eligible for legal advice and pro bono referrals to law firms
- Providing legal information to not-for-profit organisations, where appropriate
- Facilitating and monitoring pro bono referrals to Justice Connect member law firms and barristers, and
- Monitoring and maintaining client and other databases to ensure that data and record keeping is complete, current, and accurate.
A week in this role
If you were here last week, you would have:
- Used your exceptional communication and administrative skills to oversee Not-for-profit Law’s intake process, connecting with a wide range of not-for-profit organisations by phone and email to determine the best way for them to have their tricky legal questions answered.
- Monitored and maintained up to date client records, administering multiple client files concurrently (opening, closing, periodic checks and evaluation) and other general paralegal and administrative duties.
- Supported a lawyer within the team with legal research on a key legal issue for not-for-profit organisations and drafting related correspondence (with clients and law firms).
- Gathered, reviewed, and analysed trends in service data (including enquiries, types of services delivered, and areas of law) to support the Managers and Head of Not-for-profit Law in quarterly planning.
- Attended on behalf of Not-for-profit law, and actively contributed to, an organisation-wide meeting on the implementation of new systems and processes.

Important role information
The position reports to the manager of Not-for-Profit Law.
Employment is full time (37.5 hours per week) fixed term for 12 months.
The role will start in mid-January 2025.
The salary for this role is $70,465.95per annum (pro rata) (plus 11.5% superannuation) with annual leave loading and generous salary packaging options.
This role will be based at our Melbourne CBD offices with 40% of the month in the workplace with hybrid working arrangements.
