Indigenous Employment Coach

The Role! 

We have an exciting & rewarding opportunity for an Indigenous Employment Coach to primarily support the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers within the Transition to Work program! Mentor disadvantaged young people aged between 15-24 to help them develop the skills required to enter and stay in the workforce. Your key day to day responsibilities will include;

  • Supporting the job seekers who are in employment to ensure a sustainable pathway;
  • Connecting with traditional owner groups, elders, community organisations and community groups within the area to promote our Employment Services and to gain new referrals;
  • Organise and run cultural activities and workshops once a week!
  • Educating the team and sharing appropriate resources to help culturally support the job seekers.
  • Build and maintain local labour market knowledge and understanding of employer needs through regular immersion visits

This is a permanent part-time (15.2 hrs per week) opportunity servicing the South Burnett region!

About you

You are passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and truly believe in every young person’s capability to achieve a positive future in everything they do. You engage and build rapport easily with young people. You also understand the importance of community and actively build connections with local elders and community groups.

In addition you also possess;

  • Certificate IV level qualification in youth work or a relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years experience OR demonstrated experience in youth work for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with an employment/case management focus;
  • A solid understanding of the local labour market as well as the barriers faced by disadvantaged young people;
  • Proven ability to deliver workshops and group facilitation processes with groups of young people (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specifically)
