Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations People through their national network of hostels.  

AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay. 

The Opportunity  

Working closely with the local community, you will provide high quality care to people staying in hostels and ensure residents are well looked after.  

AHL is proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations people in the Australian Public Service (APS) with First Nations employees making up approximately 50% of their workforce. 

The Roles 

There are multiple opportunities to join AHL at their Trilby Cooper Hostel in Kalgoorlie.  

  • Cooks/Kitchenhands 
  • Housekeepers 
  • Night Attendants 

Roles are offered either as a permanent full-time (75 hours a fortnight) or part time (30 – 60 hours a fortnight). 

Shifts generally cover 4 days of 7am to 7pm and 6 half days a fortnight including weekdays and weekends.

The Ideal Person 

People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations peoples are well suited to these roles.  

Ideally you have experience with similar work, but what’s really important is that you can work as part of a team.  

Salary / Rate 

This role is offered on an ongoing basis either full-time or part-time.  

  • $56,774 – $61,883 + 15.4% Super (pro-rated for part-time positions) 
  • Generous shift penalties for work after hours, weekends and public holidays 
  • Salary packaging options available that can reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay 
  • Additional remote location allowances available
