AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.

The Opportunity

AHL has multiple opportunities for passionate and experienced accommodation managers to join their team at Trilby Cooper Hostel in Kalgoorlie.

Working closely with the local community, you will support First Nations People staying in hostels and ensure residents can connect with all services they require during their stay.

AHL is proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations People in the Australian Public Service (APS) with First Nations employees making up approximately 50% of their workforce.

The Role

AHL Hostel Managers and Assistant Hostel Managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of their hostels.

These roles are hands-on and will see you working closely with the team to provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment.

The roles are offered on a full-time basis (75 hour per fortnight) or part-time (30 – 60 hours a fortnight).

A workday will typically cover 7am – 7pm shifts for 8 days a fortnight (including one short day), across weekdays and weekends.

The Ideal Person

Great Hostel Mangers and Assistant Managers come from a wide range of professional backgrounds.

While experience in a similar industry such as hospitality management, community health or social and cultural services is important, a really successful Hostel Manager or Assistant Hostel Manager must have empathy and resilience with a calm but firm demeanour.

People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations people are well suited to this opportunity and First Nations people are encouraged to apply.

Salary and Benefits

This role is offered on an ongoing basis either full-time or part-time.

  • Hostel Manager: $80,450 – $87,572 + 15.4% Super (pro-rated for part-time positions)
  • Assistant Hostel Manager: $71,560 – $78,001 + 15.4% Super (pro-rated for part-time positions)
  • Generous shift penalties for work after hours, weekends and public holidays
  • Salary packaging options available that can reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay
  • Additional remote location allowances may be available
