About Brisbane 2032
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the “Games”) will be the largest event in South-East Queensland’s history, with the potential to deliver transformational change to our region. As the name suggests, the Brisbane Organising Committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (“Brisbane 2032”) is responsible for organising the Games. Some of Brisbane 2032’s operational responsibilities include: raising revenue through sponsorship, ticketing and the sale of Brisbane 2032 merchandise, sourcing the goods and services required to deliver the Games, managing the temporary overlay and operation of the venues and recruiting thousands of volunteers as well as many other elements that are essential in staging a world class global sporting event.

About the Position
The Head of Government Relations will report to the President of Brisbane 2032, working closely with their Chief of Staff, and be responsible for developing and implementing Brisbane 2032’s government relations strategy.

The role will proactively manage key external relationships with government departments across all levels of government, developing key relationships with government stakeholders to advance Brisbane 2032’s priorities, managing the coordination of organisation-wide government relations activities. It will provide leadership and advice on government policy and issues impacting Brisbane 2032’s strategic and business operations, making recommendations for action and identifying potential risks.

It will also maintain positive working relationships with other key stakeholders, handle enquiries from government officials, and manage correspondence between the President and government bodies. Responsibilities extend to monitoring legislative and policy changes affecting Brisbane 2032 and ensuring the President is appropriately briefed on all relevant government workstreams; and working closely with key Brisbane 2032 staff to ensure legislative requirements as a statutory body are adhered to.

About You
To be successful in this role you will bring the following:

  • Degree in Public Policy, Communications, Business Administration, or other relevant field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australia’s political, parliamentary and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising a politician or senior government/business official. Working in a Government Relations function external to a Government entity would also be highly regarded.
  • Government relations experience in a statutory body or sporting organisation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a high performing team environment.
  • Experience delivering to deadlines and under pressure in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
