First Nations Health Advisor (Identified position)

Provide support to RANZCOG to improve our cultural confidence in delivering First Nations health equity

About us:
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.

RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women’s health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women.

RANZCOG supports research into women’s health and act as an advocate for women’s healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on the development of cultural safety and competence within the O&G workforce through coordination and promotion of training and professional development.
  • Advise on advocacy efforts related to women’s health, health equity, and improving health outcomes for First Nations people.
  • Support RANZCOG’s commitments outlined in the Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
  • Support RANZCOG’s relationships with First Nations community leaders, groups, and organisations in O&G healthcare.
  • Coordinate projects, initiatives, activities, and events related to supporting and growing the First Nations O&G workforce.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the First Nations Women’s Health Committee (FNWHC).

Ko wai koe | About you – Key Selection Criteria

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of First Nations community and voices.
  • Ability to effectively engage with First Nations and non-Indigenous people to advance equitable outcomes for First Nations people.
  • An interest in, and commitment to, improving O&G health outcomes.
  • Experience in planning/organising activities and events or project management.
  • Policy experience and experience working within a government or advocacy context.
  • Experience working in a not for profit organisation.
