First Clerk Assistant & Manager Education Services

The role

In this role of First Clerk Assistant (Chamber) and Manager of Education Services, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the management and processing of legislation through the Queensland Parliament Legislative Chamber. Leading a dedicated team, you will provide crucial procedural and administrative support to members of the Legislative Assembly. Additionally, you will spearhead parliamentary education and First Peoples liaison initiatives and facilitate engaging tours of the precinct.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Table Office and Education and Liaison Teams to ensure day-to-day operations are conducted efficiently and effectively
  • Assist the Clerk of the Parliament in providing policy, procedural and administrative advice to the Speaker and advising members in regard to the conduct of proceedings in the Assembly
  • Liaise with members on procedural matters and with officers of Executive Government and other Parliaments
  • Serve as a Clerk-at-the-Table
  • Proactively lead and guide the delivery of Parliamentary Education and First Peoples liaison projects
  • Manage the Service Area’s financial and human resources.

You are an organised, detail-focused individual with a strong sense of responsibility.  You have in-depth expertise in, or quickly adaptable knowledge of, parliamentary law and procedures. You excel in leadership, management, and communication and engagement and are capable of multitasking and meeting deadlines.

Leadership & Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively, ensuring achievement of goals and objectives, with a focus on enhancing office efficiency through the development and optimisation of work procedures.

Interpersonal Skills: Advanced skills in building relationships, liaising, consulting, and negotiating with various stakeholders.

Professional Judgement: High-level judgement and analytical skills, capable of researching and providing well-considered written advice on complex matters.

Parliamentary Expertise: In-depth or quickly adaptable knowledge of parliamentary law and procedures, particularly regarding legislation and Assembly operations, with the ability to advise Members of Parliament under strict deadlines and perform duties as a Clerk at the Table.
