Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations People through their national network of hostels.

AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.

AHL is proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations People in the Australian Public Service (APS) with First Nations employees making up approximately 50% of their workforce.

The Role

Working alongside Hostel Managers, you will provide support and help ensure the delivery of safe, affordable and culturally appropriate services.

You will take part in and coordinate HR-related matters including staff recruitment activities, training, performance management and probationary processes across the region.

You will also assist with operational administration including risk, finance, payroll and compliance processes to all hostels in NSW/VIC.

Please note: internally at AHL this role is called Project Officer.

The Ideal Person

People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations people are well suited to this opportunity and First Nations people are encouraged to apply.

You will have strong organisation skills computer literacy and attention to detail. You have excellent communication skills, work well in a team and enjoy using your creativity to solve problems.

Finally, you will have a passion for training and developing staff and may be working towards or have completed your Cert IV in Training & Assessment, Human Resources or similar.

Salary and Benefits

This role is offered on a full-time, ongoing basis:

  • APS5: $80,450 – $87,572 + 15.4% Super
  • Salary packaging options available that can reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay
