Director Infrastructure and Operational Services

Oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of the Shire’s infrastructure and operational services.

Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council is located on the remote west coast of Cape York, Queensland, surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of the Thaayore, Wik, Bakanh, and Yir Yoront peoples. The Shire encompasses over 466,000 hectares of pristine natural beauty and a close-knit community, dedicated to sustainable development and preserving its unique environment.

We are seeking a Director of Infrastructure & Operational Services to lead and manage various departments within Council’s Operations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the management and compliance of multiple service areas within the Council’s Operations Department. The Director ensures the efficient delivery of essential services that directly impact the community’s quality of life.

This role is both strategic and operational, requiring the candidate to be hands-on in managing day-to-day activities while also shaping the long-term sustainability of the Council’s infrastructure and services.
Key responsibilities include managing the Council’s infrastructure and asset management programs, which cover a wide range of areas such as parks and gardens, roads, community and corporate buildings, and fleet management. The role also encompasses the oversight of critical services, including drinking and wastewater management, waste management, and the repairs and maintenance of public housing.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing infrastructure projects, a strong understanding of asset management, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services in a remote context. You will lead a team, work closely with community stakeholders, and contribute to the strategic direction of the Council.

Salary: 
$150,000 per annum (dependent on skills, experience & qualifications).

Airfares:           
Local Fares scheme at $200.00 return to Cairns applicable after 1 year of service

Leave:    
5 weeks of annual leave per annum
3 weeks of personal leave per annum
13 weeks of long service leave after 10 years of service

Housing:
2 bedroom, Airconditioned Brick veneer home with basic furniture with a cost of $120.00 per week which is part of Salary Package & non-taxable

A provision for Relocation is applicable depending on area of recruitment.
