The Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) is an independent statutory human rights agency with responsibilities under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and Human Rights Act 2019.

QHRC work towards their vision by providing an expert dispute resolution service for discrimination and human rights complaints which is managed via a statewide enquiry service.  QHRC supports people to understand their rights and responsibilities and provides training for businesses, government and the community.  QHRC also supports policy development and legislation to better protect rights and increases public understanding of human rights via community engagement and educational programs.

The Opportunity

Due to continued organisational growth, a permanent opportunity has arisen for a proven corporate services executive to take the helm and drive performance-enabling functions across the people and culture, information technology, financial management, procurement and governance areas, to lead the Commission into their next exciting development phase.

As a member of the Executive Management Committee, (EMC), reporting directly to the Commissioner and supported by your line managers and principal advisors, you will help shape, drive and deliver upon the strategic direction of the Commission.

A key focus of this role is working in close collaboration with the EMC to lead and deliver a broad range of strategic and operational corporate support and performance enabling services and initiatives, linking operational performance to strategy. As Director, Corporate Services, you will be relied upon by the Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and other senior management to provide well informed and evidence-based advice and practice to influence organsiational effectiveness and capability across the entire corporate services function.

Exceptional internal and external stakeholder engagement skills are a requirement for this position, as you will not only lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team to support effective corporate service delivery, but you will also be required to actively communicate across a range of partner agencies and service providers to ensure the Commission’s obligations are understood and service agreements optimised.

  • Influential communications, demonstrated clear, confident, articulate and respectful communications, negotiations and facilitation skills, including the ability to listen and adapt to the audience as well as communicate with people on highly sensitive issues and engage with diverse communities
  • A broad understanding of the human rights systems and legislation in Australia, (advantageous).
  • Tertiary Qualifications, such as finance, accounting or another business-related discipline, would be highly regarded.
