Digital & Communications Coordinator

Position Overview

The position sits within the Business support team and provides digital, technical and communication platform support/advice to the NNTT. The Communication & Digital Coordinator works independently, as well as works effectively as part of a team, for the timely completion of tasks.

This position would suit someone who is comfortable working within statutory and procedural frameworks, enjoys working and communicating with a diverse range of people and has an exceptional eye for detail. The successful candidate will have relevant graphic design and technical competencies to assist in the creation of a range of internal and external material for the NNTT. This position will also oversee production schedules and needs to be able to work towards and meet deadlines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applying knowledge and understanding of First Nations cultural protocols and communication strategies specific to this audience, to develop and deliver high-quality creative material such as brochures, publications, forms, flow charts and other print and digital assets including editing photo and video content.
  • Liaising with Tribunal and Entity teams with expertise to design and produce the final suite of products.
  • End to end design project management plans and timelines that includes research of existing sector material and programs, identification of key messages and appropriate formats, content development, final production and mechanisms for future evaluation.
  • Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships to ensure the relevance and utility of communications products and programs
  • Design and optimise digital content for the NNTT website, intranet and SharePoint sites.
  • Assist with publishing and advertising requirements, keeping in frequent contact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with creating advertising calendars, procedures, templates and media kits as well as maintaining appropriate records for reconciliation, reporting and statistics.
  • Display a high standard of compliance with organisational practices and procedures, including records and information management practices, and ownership of work.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  2. Possess an ability to communicate sensitively with and demonstrate cultural understanding of and with respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  3. Expert technical knowledge of graphic design techniques and tools (Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint), for both print and digital output, including a good understanding and application of WCAG accessibility standards.
  4. Proven experience and proficiency in developing creative visual content that conveys clear messages across a broad range of channels.
  5. Well-developed organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage design production schedules for multiple projects and monitor workflows and standards to meet tight deadlines.
  6. Demonstrated oral and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels and the ability to build and sustain a network of positive working relationships with key people, internally and externally.
  7. Proven ability to act impartially and professionally, and operate within the boundaries of organisational processes, constraints and APS values.

Qualifications

Qualifications/demonstrated experience in graphic design, communications and creative content development, while not essential, would be an advantage.

Other requirements

It would be a further advantage to candidates to be able to present a portfolio of work with their application or examples of previous work.

Eligibility

Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:

  • Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship;
  • Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check, and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment;
  • Health clearance – the successful applicant may be required to complete a health declaration or attend a medical assessment to confirm their fitness for duty.

Interested candidates who have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency are welcome to apply but note that they cannot be engaged until their redundancy benefit period has expired.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.

This vacancy is advertised as an ‘identified position’ which means candidates are required to have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and proven culturally appropriate engagement and communication skills. Additional selection criteria are added to cover this, and successful applicants will be expected to provide a reference from an Indigenous referee, where possible, to confirm they can meet these requirements.
