About the Opportunity

Join the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) in the role of Curator, Aboriginal Art and Material Culture! We are currently seeking an experienced and driven curator, to contribute to a dynamic ongoing forward calendar of temporary, travelling and permanent exhibitions. Based in Darwin, Northern Territory this position will form a key part of the Curatorial Team. You will be responsible for the prestigious annual Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA); the first and longest running exhibition of its kind in Australia.

The key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

• Deliver the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in liaison with the NATSIAA project team.
• Contribute to the delivery of high quality, creative and audience-focused exhibitions and curatorial projects across all MAGNT sites.
• Develop and maintain professional networks and partnerships with external stakeholders including project partners, other cultural organisations, community groups and researchers.
• Work with the Senior Curator of Art, Curator, Exhibitions and Collections, Aboriginal Art and Material Culture and the Development Manager in identifying and securing income from grants and donors.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a curator with a thorough knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture including an understanding of the needs of artists and the community, and of issues and current debates surrounding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art and its public presentation.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience in the research, development and delivery of engaging exhibitions in a museum or gallery context   
• High level oral and written communication skills
• Experience in the development and delivery of public engagement activities such as artist and curator talks, workshops and tours.
