About Us 

Mob 4 Mob is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Disability body dedicated to providing a much-needed voice for our communities living with disability in Queensland. A community-controlled organization, Mob for Mob was established to raise issues impacting the resilience of our mob with disability by focusing on crucial areas such as education, health, housing, the justice system and transport from a cultural perspective. We are committed to enhancing the human rights and well-being of First Nations mob with disabilities in Queensland through: 

  • Establishing a peak body dedicated to providing a voice for our communities living with disability in Queensland. 
  • Representing diverse groups including Aboriginal, South Sea, and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 
  • Empowering First Nations mob with disabilities for mutual support. 
  • Undertaking systemic disability advocacy. 
  • Advancing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. 
  • Identifying and addressing service and support gaps. 
  • Creating culturally safe spaces for First Nations mob with disabilities. 

 Position Overview 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a First Nations person with disability responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, operations, and financial management of Mob 4 Mob. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organisation’s purpose is fulfilled through effective programs, strategic planning, compliance with legislation and regulations, a positive organisational culture and community outreach. This role requires a visionary leader who can inspire and manage a small team, oversee program implementation, and ensure financial sustainability.  

 Key Responsibilities 

1. Leadership and Strategy 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans that meet Mob 4 Mob’s goals and objectives in partnership with the Board of Directors. 
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within the organisation. 
  • Oversee human resource management, including recruitment, performance monitoring, and exit interviews. 
  • Identify systemic issues affecting First Nations mob with disabilities and prioritise such issues with the available resources of Mob 4 Mob.

2. Operational Management
 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Mob 4 Mob. 
  • Lead and support the professional development of 2 staff members, including recruitment and performance management. 
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to manage organisational risk. 
  • Develop and implement quality assurance frameworks and processes to ensure the highest standards of service delivery. 
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure continuous improvement. 
  • Lead the organisation in obtaining and maintaining relevant accreditations and certifications. 
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the organisation. 
  • Ensure that the organization maintains appropriate insurance coverage for all aspects of its operations. 
  • Regularly review and update insurance policies to reflect changes in organizational activities and risk profiles. 
  • Manage relationships with insurance providers and coordinate the resolution of any insurance claims.

3. Financial Management 

  • In collaboration with the Operations Officer and Board of Directors, develop and manage the organisation’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board of Directors and funders. 
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, identify and secure new sources of funding to ensure Mob 4 Mob can fulfill its purpose and objectives while expanding Mob 4 Mob’s impact. 
  • In conjunction with the Operations Officer develop and implement a plan aimed at achieving Mob 4 Mob financial independence, diversity and viability. 
  • In conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Operations Officer, ensures that financial and quality assurance audits are performed and that Mob 4 Mob maintains its certification against the required standards. 

4. Community and Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Work with the Board of Directors to expand Mob 4 Mob’s membership base. 
  • Represent Mob 4 Mob in the community and build strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government. 
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance the organisation’s public image and to advance the interests of First Nation mob with disabilities. 

5. Governance 

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards. 
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to fulfill governance responsibilities, including: 
  • providing reports on Mob 4 Mob activities and finances; 
  • assisting in the recruiting and selection of Board of Directors; and 
  • overseeing Mob 4 Mob’s dispute resolution process. 
  • Participate in Board of Directors meetings and provide timely updates on organisational performance and challenges. 
  • Supervise the Operations Officer to ensure compliance with funding guidelines and reporting requirements. 

6. Extent of Authority  

  • Ability to work with autonomy, collaborate and coordinate when and where required and within organisational policy and to take direction from the Board of Directors. 
  • Ability to exercise leadership, initiative and judgment within the sphere of work to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate work in a strategic way. 

Essential Criteria 

  • Lived experiences as First Nations person with disability. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting the rights, interests and aspirations of First Nations mob with disabilities, in accordance with the United Nations CRPD. 
  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role within the social, community, home care, or disability services sector. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate the strategic work of the organisation. 
  • Experience with financial management and decision making. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to inspire and manage and work collaboratively with a small team. 
  • Strong understanding of governance and working with a Board of Directors. 
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft environments, including SharePoint and Outlook.
  • Disability Worker Screening. 

Desirable Criteria 

Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, management, or a related field.
