Captain Starlight – Melbourne CBD

About Starlight

Our mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children & their families, bringing them fun, joy, and laughter when they need it most… because happiness matters.

About the role

Captain Starlight is a superhero from Planet Starlight who delivers happiness to children in hospitals, clinics, and remote communities across Australia. Our Captains are experienced performers, trained to use play, creativity and social connection to support children in some of their toughest times and to positively transform their health care experience.

Captain Starlight programs reach every major children’s hospital in Australia and this innovative program was developed in partnership with leading health professionals to complement the Australian healthcare system to create a lasting positive impact on the lives of sick kids.

As Captain Starlight, you will:

  • Make a real and positive difference to the lives of others.
  • Become the best performer you can be – we offer performance workshops with renowned industry professionals and the opportunity to participate in a week of Learning and Development in another Starlight Express Room of your choice.
  • Be part of an incredible, diverse team of over 160 talented actors and performers, each with their own networks.

Working at Royal Children’s Hospital

We’re currently recruiting for casual team member to join the RCH team. Our in hospital program operates 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday) and shifts are 7.5 hours a day.

At Starlight we want to support our team members’ performance commitments. Your availability and the needs of the program will both be taken into account when building monthly rosters, so you can keep SHINING outside of Starlight.

About you

To #SHINE as a Captain:

  • You have experience and training in acting, theatre, theatre-making, music, musical theatre, standup, improv or clowning as these skills are a must!
  • You’re a master of quick-thinking, reading a room and delivering exceptional experiences in a safe, imaginative, and entertaining way.
  • You’re authentic and playful and thrive when working with others.

The Captain Starlight character is an extension of you – they are positive, warm, bright, ego-free and have a healthy dose of naivety (being an intergalactic visitor).

Whatever your performance superpower is – we want to see it! It’s what makes the Captain Starlight character uniquely you. Captain Starlight is YOU, in a very shiny cape. So, let your very best “you” shine! We can’t wait to meet you in an audition.

Our goal is to be the most inclusive workplace in Australia. We welcome candidates from all cultural backgrounds, and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, members of the LGBTI+ community, people with a disability and those who are mature-age or just starting out in their careers.

We are committed to positive employment experiences in an environment where everyone is included, respected, safe and treated fairly, so you can be your best and true self every day. Successful applicants will therefore undertake a Working With Children Check and a National Police Check.
If we can make accommodations to our recruitment process to help you shine, please include this in your application.
