Australian Fisheries Management Authority Commissioners

Expressions of interest are sought for up to seven part-time commissioner positions for the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) Commission.

AFMA is the Australian Government agency responsible for the efficient management and sustainable use of Commonwealth fish resources on behalf of the Australian community. The AFMA Commission is responsible for domestic fisheries management. Further information about AFMA’s role and responsibilities is available at afma.gov.au.

Successful candidates will be appointed for up to five years, based on demonstration of a high-level expertise in one or more of the following fields:

  • fisheries management
  • matters relating to recreational or Indigenous fishing
  • science
  • economics
  • law
  • fishing industry operations
  • natural resource management
  • business or financial management
  • public sector administration or governance.

Knowledge of or experience in sustainable fishing would also be highly regarded.

AFMA Commissioners are expected to attend up to five meetings annually, with some additional out-of-session email, telephone and video conferencing.

Total annual remuneration is currently $41,480 as determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.
