Associate (Targeted)

  • We’re looking for someone with a curious mind and willingness to learn to support the delivery of key education reforms. You will provide considered and timely advice on key issues facing NSW.
  • While this position is open to all individuals, it is targeted to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply and consideration will be given to suitable Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants to promote equal or improved access.
  • Ongoing (permanent) Clerk Grade 7/8 role. The principal place of work is in  the Sydney CBD, with flexible work options available.

About the role.

The Associate, Policy undertakes policy and project work to inform policy directions, facilitate service delivery reforms, and provide options on which The Cabinet Office and Government can rely for effective decision making. The Associate supports effective NSW Cabinet processes and provides expert policy advice on decisions of Government.

The Education and Skills team works with the NSW Department of Education, TAFE NSW and a range of diverse government and non-government stakeholders to:

  • Make sure NSW public schools continue to be great places to learn and work.
  • Accelerate better educational outcomes and pathways to employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in NSW
  • Enable accessible and affordable Early Childhood Education and Care in NSW, helping parents to participate in the workforce in a way that suits them, and empowering NSW’s littlest learners.
  • Ensure TAFE NSW and the broader NSW Vocational Education and Training sector continues to deliver world class skills for everyone in NSW
  • Embed the NSW Government’s commitments under the National Agreement to Closing the Gap.

  • You are solutions-focused, work well under pressure, and can adapt to competing demands and changing priorities.
  • You have experience building strong relationships with stakeholders and supporting senior decision-makers.
  • You have experience in undertaking all aspects of the policy process – research, development, review and evaluation.
  • You have a deep understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a commitment to respectful and effective engagement.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent, relevant professional experience and training.

Salary: Clerk Grade 7/8. Package includes base salary ($106,025 – $117,363) plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
