About the team
The Analysis Services team are responsible for supporting the Commission to manage data, information and analysis to make intelligence led, risk-based and proportionate regulatory decision. This is achieved by developing and delivering data analytics products from multiple information and data sources. The function also includes statistical analysis, risk profiling, data modelling and methodological advice to generate insights based on data.
About the Role
The Data Specialist will support the development of analytical products for the Commission’s operations through collecting data from multiple sources, cleaning and analysing large data sets, organising information, creating applications that translate data and identify patterns using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). The Data Specialist will ensure the delivery of analytical products and reports that support the Aged Care Act and Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s vision for data driven regulation of the sector.
Position Duties
- Responsible for data extraction and analysis including data modelling (ML & AI) and statistical analysis to assist with data-driven decision making for current and future projects.
- Support stakeholder engagement, coordination and source data investigation to determine organisational analytics needs, shape delivery of analytical products, and identify new analytical opportunities.
- Coordinate, manage and develop short- and long-term analytical projects within the section in consultation with the Intelligence Services Stream Lead
- Support and contribute to the development of written reports, infographics and presentations detailing the findings of analysis conducted for various projects.
- Support user acceptance testing of analytical tools and data dashboards.
- Contribute to the development of innovative ideas to tackle challenging aged care policy problems using data analytics.
- Provide knowledge/skills transfer to other team members.
Position Eligibility Requirements (Selection Criteria):
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills including the ability to interpret and synthesise information from a range of sources.
- Ability to prepare and analyse data, using ML, AI or statistical methods, and interpret the outcome to form well-reasoned and defensible conclusions.
- Good organisational skills and ability to adapt to evolving work priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and productively as part of a team, and to meet deadlines.
- Excellent writing skills, including the ability to translate findings from data analysis to written reports, oral presentations, or dashboard that may be delivered to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.
- Proficiency in SQL and one or more programming/scripting languages such as R and Python.
Desired Capabilities
- Experience in data mining, statistical analysis and techniques including machine learning algorithms.
- Experience in the fields of health, aged care, or disability data.
Position Notes:
- Salary offered will be between $92,970 – $104,883 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, 15.4% superannuation will be paid.

- Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an irregular/intermittent term. Opportunities will be offered for varying periods up to 12 months with the option to extend to a total of 24 months.
