Aircraft Technician

Your role:
As an Aircraft Technician in the Australian Army, you will be a multi-skilled soldier who is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, rebuilding, refurbishing, modifying and recovering Army aircraft airframes, engines and ancillary equipment. You’ll also conduct limited inspections and repairs on aircraft safety equipment and armament.

Your Military duties include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled servicing, overhauls and repairs to aircraft systems such as hydraulics, flight controls and ancillary equipment
  • Operate and maintain test equipment and special tooling associated with the trade
  • Operate and maintain workshop plant, equipment and vehicles
  • Carry out aircraft modifications when required
  • Act as crew members during flight testing to diagnose faults
  • Identify and investigate defects and recommended remedial action in the areas covered by the trade; and
  • Maintain technical manuals and maintenance documentation for aircraft related equipment.

Location:
Following your initial military training, you could be posted to a variety of Army units across Australia including Brisbane, Oakey, Townsville, Darwin and Sydney.

Salary:
In the Army you’ll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $56,385 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $87,929 per annum plus generous super.

Eligibility:
For this role, you must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
  • Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English, Mathematics and Science (preferably with a physics component)
  • Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
  • Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we’ll give you tips to help you prepare
  • Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
