Administration Officer

  • Utilise your expertise to provide support and advice to Aboriginal Justice Group.
  • 2 years Fixed Term Opportunity (until June 2026) to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service
  • VPS Grade 3: $76,817- $93,275 plus superannuation.

About the Business Unit

The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. The group works in partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and is guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination. The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and was established in January 2022 to deliver the Stolen Generations Reparations Package (Package) in Victoria. The team is committed to delivering a reparations process that is fully supported, accessible, transparent and trauma informed.

About the Role

The Administration Officer, Research and Assessment will be responsible for supporting and coordinating all administrative processes, systems and relationships that enable the delivery of the Reparations Package.

This role requires strong organisation and communication skills. It will support key activities that involve working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma and requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians. The Administration Officer will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, complex, and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, manage competing priorities and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders and initiate and maintain professional relationships.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide high level administrative and confidential support to the Research and Assessment Team.
  • Support the Research and Assessment Team with written communication and business support tasks relating to the research and assessment tasks of applications to the Package.
  • Support with Secretariat responsibilities for the Independent Assessment Panel including logistics, coordination and administration.
  • Manage and maintain efficient records management systems for the Research and Assessment Team utilising HRM Content Manager.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture contemporary issues facing Stolen Generations and Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and/or coordinating efficient administration systems and processes.
  • Proven ability to effectively determine priorities, organise workload and meet deadlines in an environment where timeliness and confidentiality are paramount

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience would be desirable but is not essential.
