Aboriginal Student Support Officer

  • Salary range $33.42 – $36.29 per hour

The Role

As the Aboriginal Student support officer, you will be the first point of for Aboriginal students. You will provide welfare monitoring and intervention support to assist the students to succeed.

Through collaborative engagement with teachers and managers you will deliver support strategies to improve student retention and success.

To be successful in this role you will have lived experience and or a deep understanding, appreciation and demonstrated experience in working with the koori community. Responsibilities include but not limited to;

  • Support Aboriginal students to begin and continue their chosen studies
  • Identify the students cultural and study requirements
  • Maintain case and file notes with accuracy in a timely manner
  • Monitor the student’s engagement and success, completing reviews monthly
  • Take part in planning, development and presentation of programs
  • Provide in class support to the students and teaching staff

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience and extensive knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and history
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships
  • High Level Microsoft office skills and the ability to learn new programs
  • Be a proactive and positive team member, advocating for the students
  • Can work well under pressure and time manage effectively

Working with children, Police Check, Current Drivers Licence
