About the Aboriginal Community Development Worker role

Work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to enhance access to culturally appropriate health services and programs. Depending on skills and experience, this ongoing position, reporting to the Aboriginal Health Manager, is available at 0.6 FTE up to a full-time role (1.0 FTE).

Please note this is a First Nations identified position and an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is sought for the role. All roles within the Aboriginal Health team are filled by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Your Passion and Commitment will see you:

  • Support Aboriginal members in accessing health services and navigating the healthcare system, ensuring they are aware of available programs
  • Engage with Aboriginal community members to gather feedback and insights that inform program delivery and ensure cultural relevance
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of health education initiatives, including workshops and community events that promote health literacy
  • Participate in local projects that address health issues with a focus on early intervention and prevention strategies
  • Maintain accurate client records and program statistics to ensure accountability and effectiveness in service delivery

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications, such as an Aboriginal Health Worker certification, Certificate III in Mental Health, Certificate IV in Community Services, or a willingness to pursue these qualifications
  • Extensive experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, showcasing cultural awareness in service delivery
  • Strong knowledge of health issues and community systems, including referral pathways and challenges
  • Proven skills in program planning, implementation, evaluation, and effective budget management.
  • Excellent networking and facilitation abilities, enhancing client participation and collaboration
