Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative – Justice & Community Services now has the following vacancies: 

 

2x – Local Justice Workers

Full-time, 38 hours a week, Fixed Term: 3-year contract

 

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010).

This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

 

About the Role

The role involves supporting Koori offenders on community-based orders by providing tailored services that address their unique needs. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, utilizing strong networks and a deep understanding of service systems to guide and advocate for clients. The goal is to help clients meet their order conditions while reducing reoffending through culturally appropriate, supervised community work and promoting positive behavioural changes.

 

In addition, you will develop and run programs, such as recreational and educational activities, while collaborating with stakeholders like Corrections Victoria. You will also provide reports, negotiate payment plans for fines, and ensure community-based support options are available. Participation in team meetings and developing referral protocols will be essential to integrating justice services.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field, or equivalent experience with a willingness to pursue further qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of the Victorian Koori Community, including culture, societal dynamics, and challenges, particularly related to over-representation in the justice system and the effects of modern disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, including managing caseloads and supporting clients in achieving case plan goals, especially those with complex needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • High level of computer literacy, including managing a computer-based diary system for effective client bookings.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay and conditions based on the SCHADS Award Level 3, Pay Point 1-4: $37.35 to $40.05 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
