0122861 Senior Project and Policy Specialist (Identified)

  • Full time, Fixed term 2-year contract
  • Located at Camperdown/Darlington Campus & flexible working arrangements available (3 days onsite)
  • Base Salary (HEO8) $121,508 – $125,384 + 17% Superannuation

About the opportunity

Our Indigenous Strategy & Services team is seeking a candidate well versed across the areas of project management, policy advisory and community engagement that has a passion to work with mob for mob.

As the Senior Project and Policy Specialist you will work on initiatives projected to positively impact Indigenous staff and students at the University of Sydney, and the local communities of our campus’s.  Commencing in this position you will undertake duties associated with timeline and process mapping for our confirmation of identity records and advisory committee projects as your key focus areas.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Community & Culture and other colleagues within the Gadigal Centre and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Services (DVC-ISS) portfolio
  • develop and contribute to project plans, overseeing the implementation of tasks and activities to ensure they align with the overarching project objectives and timeframes
  • develop and maintain productive relationships with the local and wider Aboriginal community and its leadership, civil society, government and industry and the University community
  • support the Senior Manager in various projects including the Circle of Elders, Gadigal Scholarship Program and Confirmation of Identity Policy Review a point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students for non-academic support, cultural mentorship, and advice
  • contribute to reporting on a regular basis for internal governance and external agencies and undertake routine reviews of all key activities.

Desired criteria:

  • Experience working within higher education or government sector, or an equivalent organisation specific to supporting Indigenous Affairs.

About you:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • demonstrated understanding and connection to culture through community engagement and previous professional experience
  • experience interpreting, reviewing and/ or writing policies, procedures and legislation
  • demonstrated capacity to manage and lead projects, inclusive of budget management, costing proposals and ability to collate/ contribute to relevant meeting papers (agenda, minutes etc.)
  • well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working
  • strong time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes and effectively deliver results.
