HEAD OF ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING (Indigenous Arts – Identified)

Note that this is an Australian Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander identified position.

See also our advertisement for Project Manager – Indigenous Fashion Projects on the DAAFF website.

About the Role

The Head of Artistic Programming for the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation takes the lead on designing, planning and delivering a diverse range of programs in Indigenous visual arts, fashion, cultural curation and education, both for events and online.

You’ll ensure Indigenous agency around all creative decisions, then realise the vision through your comprehensive program design, administration and program management. In addition, you’ll be one of the ‘faces’ of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation, representing the organisation’s visual arts strategy and approach.

Program planning and delivery runs across the year, with a major focus on six days in August – when Darwin comes alive with the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, the National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA) and Country to Couture Runway, plus a whole range of associated events and activities.

You’ll have an opportunity to get a grip on the role in 2025, then be a significant contributor to planning and delivery of 2026 events, when the DAAF Foundation will celebrate 20 years of supporting Indigenous art and culture!

About You

This is an exciting role requiring an experienced arts sector project manager. Your background might include working in settings such as arts administration, curation or festival programming. Relevant qualifications and an understanding of the Indigenous art sector will be beneficial.

With great project management, administration and people skills, you’ll be able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver outcomes independently and with the team – all with calm good humour, often in high intensity situations.

You’ll be working with Indigenous artists and communities, national and international arts organisations, and colleagues distributed across Australia.

About the Benefits

You’ll be joining a sector-leading, high profile Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural organisation with a warm, talented and supportive team and a respectful and inclusive workplace culture. It’s exciting, challenging and rewarding!

This permanent, full-time role comes with a package that includes a salary $85,000-$90,000, 6 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading), time off in lieu and travel opportunities.

This position may be based in Darwin (preferred) or the successful candidate may work remotely from another location.
