The team

Your team ASIC’s Enforcement and Compliance Group (E&C) is responsible for the conduct of ASIC’s initial inquiries, compliance and enforcement work across all sectors excluding markets. The E&C comprises Investigation and Enforcement Action, Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance, Enforcement (Evidence) Services and Enforcement Portfolio Coordination. The roles, one with Superannuation & Life portfolio responsibilities and the other with Investment Managers portfolio responsibilities are in the Enforcement Portfolio 1 Team and report to the Portfolio 1 Enforcement Portfolio Executive Leader.

The Enforcement Portfolio Executive heading up Enforcement Portfolio Team 1 is responsible for a portfolio of industry sectors: superannuation, life insurance, financial advice and investment managers as well as ASIC’s ESG Greenwashing enforcement team.

The role 

As a Senior Specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Enforcement Portfolio Executive in their role;
  • Delivering specialist portfolio reporting and analysis across sector and business plan lines;
  • Liaison activities including: preparation of briefs; working with internal and external stakeholders; representing ASIC E&C in a range of forums, including as main point of liaison for other regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Providing technical and strategic analysis and advice to E&C and Regulatory & Supervision teams on enforcement and regulatory matters;
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership and advice to drive enforcement outcomes, including by monitoring and advising on enforcement referrals and scoping of enforcement matters, and ensuring alignment with ASIC’s enforcement and E&C’s business plan priorities;
  • Lead, coordinate or contribute to project work of a strategic nature, including providing advice on law reform and policy and legislative developments from an enforcement perspective
  • In consultation with E&C Executives and other enforcement and stakeholder leadership teams, contribute to developing appropriate enforcement strategies for new matters and emerging areas of work; and
  • Managing ASIC’s strategic partnerships with external agencies and regulators.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Law, Finance, Economics or Commerce.
  • Significant experience in financial services (one or more of litigation, superannuation, financial advice, insurance, retail banking and, credit, insurance or policy development).
  • Sound analytical judgement and the ability to make informed and forward-looking decisions.
  • Proven experience exercising sound judgement in the identification of relevant issues, selection of the most appropriate regulatory solution and its implementation.
  • Flexibility, drive and an ability to work effectively with levels of change and uncertainty.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively manage competing priorities and stakeholder interests.
