Technical Architect – Cyber Security Assurance

The opportunity

ASIO is seeking a Technical Architect at the SITEB (EL2 equivalent) that will analyse complex ICT systems, deliver technical security advice and inform technical security decisions to ensure ASIO’s ICT solutions are fit-for-purpose, secure by design and aligned to ASIO’s requirements. As a Technical Architect in ASIO, you will be working closely with internal stakeholders, managed service providers, and domestic and international partners to ensure our capabilities are secure and remain so during the life cycle of operation. You will be managing ASIO’s security engineering principles, standards and practices, and contributing to the delivery of ASIO’s Cyber Security Strategy and strategic vision.

As a Cyber Security specialist in ASIO, you could be involved in the protection of ASIO from insider and cyber threats, or directly contribute to ASIO’s operational activities. ASIO will provide you with the opportunity to develop, expand and apply your skills across the full breadth of its cyber security functions.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

Role responsibilities 

As a Technical Architect, Cyber Security Assurance, you will:

  • Promote, enable and provide specialist security advice on the design and architecture of new and emerging systems in alignment with existing implementations to provided continual security uplift.
  • Govern system design ensuring conformance with industry and government security frameworks, policies and standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments against vulnerabilities and threats to determine the security controls to proactivity remediate and reduce security risks and concerns.
  • Conduct security requirements and control analysis of new capabilities to identify gaps and enhancements that can be included to deliver security by design.
  • Closely collaborate with technical specialists across ASIO and domestic and international partners to ensure the secure design and implementation of the ASIO’s technology ecosystem.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and different ways of working to ensure security requirements are at the forefront (e.g. ensuring the secure delivery of ASIO’s cloud adoption and migration and working with DevOps teams to assess and promote a DevSecOps culture).
  • Represent IT Security on relevant governance boards/groups and ensure security outcomes are appropriately prioritised and delivered against.

What you will bring

We invite applications from people with the following attributes:

  • Proven track record and professional history in the cyber security engineering to deliver secure, trustworthy, sustainable and cyber resilient ICT enabled capabilities.
  • Knowledge of information security Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), security architecture concepts, cloud security and DevSecOps.
  • Solid understanding of AWS security architecture concepts and knowledge and experience with cloud services such as containers, CI/CD pipelines, secure code management.
  • Experienced in the design, implementation, and/or maintenance of enterprise systems.
  • Strong security awareness and risk management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks, standards, and technologies.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing – including effectiveness in negotiation, consultation and representation both internally and externally.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to lead the delivery of secure outcomes in complex scenarios.
  • Relevant qualifications within cyber security and/or technical specialisations (e.g. CISSP, CRISC, SABSA, etc.) are highly desirable.

Location

These positions are located in Canberra, ACT & Sydney, NSW and applicants must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
