Senior Indigenous Cultural Advisor

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Indigenous Cultural Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice, leadership and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective on the business of Speech Pathology Australia (the Association), supporting the implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), and fostering partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The position is permanent part time working 3 days per week.

Skills:

– Demonstrated expertise in Reconciliation and culturally safe service provision

– Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, health equity, and social determinants of health

– Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

– Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

 

Responsibilities:

– Support implementation of the Association’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

– Co-chair the Association’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee

– Provide advice on policy development to ensure alignment with Indigenous cultural considerations.

– Provide administration and moderation of the Yumi Yarn Community of Practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members.

– Engage with external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations nationally

– Assist Branches in forging local networks and partnerships

– Provide quarterly reports to Board of Directors.  Raising priorities for action and pertinent recommendations for Board direction and or approval.

– Act as a subject matter expert on Indigenous cultural issues for senior management

– Support to professional education opportunities providing member understanding of First Nations histories, culture and languages.

– Develop and Implement ways to increase member awareness of Speech Pathology Australia’s (SPA) commitment to culturally safe services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

Qualifications:

– Identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person

– Senior level experience in a similar role

– Proven ability to work effectively with diverse Indigenous communities

– Demonstrated expertise and a strong interest in Reconciliation and the provision of culturally safe services in health and / or educational settings

– Proven ability to work effectively with diverse Indigenous communities and stakeholders.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 Flexible – National Office in Melbourne or remote work
(ability to attend the Melbourne office regularly will be ideal)

Some travel is required.
