Conservation Campaigner – Zoos Victoria

  • Full time, ongoing role
  • Band 4 starting from $80,942.00
  • Based at Zoos Victoria Corporate Office with flexibility to work from home.
  • Co-ordinate community conservation campaigns (behaviour change programs) that support Zoos Victoria to fight wildlife extinction.

Zoos Victoria operates four landmark zoos, Healesville Sanctuary, Kyabram Fauna Park, Melbourne Zoo, and Werribee Open Range Zoo. Victoria’s zoos are made up of passionate, energetic, and driven employees committed to fighting wildlife extinction. We come together, from different backgrounds and skillsets, to play an important part in securing a future rich in wildlife. Our success comes from diverse perspectives and knowledge.

A key focus for Zoos Victoria is community conservation (conservation driven through the community) where we aim to foster pro-wildlife attitudes and beliefs and facilitate behaviours that alleviate human threats to wildlife.

The Conservation Campaigner will use best-practice community engagement and behaviour-change techniques to assist in developing new initiatives and behaviour change programs while supporting current Wildlife Conservation and Science programs. This involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders, using best practice tools to develop the campaign, regular program reporting and communication, evaluating social and biological impact, and supporting research that will strengthen visitor and community uptake of conservation actions. The Campaigner role requires a proactive individual who has the skills and confidence to progress complex projects, engage staff with our shared goals, and think strategically about how to tackle human-driven and behaviour-related threats facing wildlife.
