The Family Wellbeing Services (FWS) aims to strengthen cohesion and capacity of families to raise healthy children to achieve their own potential and to address identified gaps in prevention, early identification and care coordination and family enhancement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families where there is a heightened risk of becoming engaged with the Child Protection system.

About the Role

Working with primarily children and young people, the successful applicant will enhance opportunities for these individuals to participate in activities that support the development of self- worth, community inclusion and family relationships. The role requires a passion for working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and a strong interest in the development of the holistic person, and a personal interest in health, spirituality, culture and personal well-being.

Our Ideal candidate

  • Is experienced working with young people and families
  • Has a sound understanding of child behavior and development, working from a trauma-informed framework
  • Can work with large stakeholders: parents, young people, vulnerable families, kinship/foster carers, Youth Justice, Queensland Police, Dept. of Child Safety
  • Will deliver planned recreation and skill based youth programs (i.e. sports, arts, life skills etc.)
  • Has high skill knowledge of individual cases, following case goals and plans as directed to deliver outcomes, along with reporting and other legislative requirements
  • Will implement principles and strategies to role model, mentor, and trach young people necessary life skills
  • Will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate experience in liaising with ATSI young people, families and community
  • Must have Valid Blue Card (prior to commencement)
  • Must be fully Covid-19 vaccinated prior to commencement

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work

Salary

$32 – $40 per hour
