Aboriginal Cultural Worker

Lutheran Community Care (LCC) is seeking a full time Aboriginal Cultural Worker to be an integral part of our Foster Care Services team.  Your role will be to provide and support culturally inclusive placements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in family based foster care.

Your role will be to :

  • Assist with the promotion and recruitment of foster carers to care for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children
  • Deliver training to staff and foster carers to enhance the provision of culturally responsive services
  • Provide consultation on cultural considerations to placement coordinators for referrals of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children
  • Develop and provide resources to staff and foster carers with the purpose of increasing cultural competency, including the promotion of events
  • Assist in the development of cultural plans for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children to connect with family and culture
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Department of Child Protection (DCP) offices and Principal Aboriginal Consultants within DCP
  • Enhance connections with Aboriginal communities and Elders

You will need;

  • An ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • A knowledge and understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and society
  • The ability to deliver small group training to staff and foster carers
  • A current and unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence and a willingness to use your own vehicle for work-related travel (kilometres reimbursed)
  • A current Working With Children Check

Salary Packaging

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) allows Public Benevolent Institutions (PBI), such as Lutheran Community Care, to offer special tax concessions. These concessions allow an employee to salary package a maximum of $15,899 from their gross salary each Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year.
