  • Duration: Full-time Temporary until 28 July 2025 (with a possibility of extension)
  • Location: Townsville
  • $114,626 – $122,400 per annum plus 12.75% superannuation

We are looking for a Principal Indigenous Program Officer to join us in making a difference to people’s lives through vocational education and training. Join our North Queensland Office to help deliver this important work to train Queenslanders now and into the future.

What you’ll be working on

The Principal Indigenous Project Officer for the North Queensland region drives employment and training outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  • You’ll collaborate with Indigenous communities, organisations, and industry to identify opportunities that enhance training, apprenticeships and employment pathways.
  • On any given day, you’ll manage projects, develop initiatives, and provide strategic advice, ensuring Indigenous voices shape regional strategies.
  • You will build strong relationships and delivering sustainable results are key.
  • You will also represent the department in community forums, contributing to policies that support Indigenous employment and training goals aligned with regional objectives.

What type of person will be successful?

We are seeking candidates who will advocate for Indigenous voices and thrive on making a difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through their:

  • program and project management skills.
  • ability to develop knowledge of the vocational education and training sector in Queensland Conceptual, analytical, research and problem-solving skills Stakeholder engagement to sustain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to meeting expectations and deadlines, including business objectives and performance targets.
  • Ability to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to a wide range of stakeholders, including the capacity to effectively communicate and sensitively consult and negotiate following Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander protocols.
