Administration Trainee

We have an exciting opportunity for two (2) Full-time Administration Trainees to join our team – one trainee at the Girls House and one trainee at the Boys House.

AFL Cape York’s (AFLCY’s) mission is to strengthen resilience, provide positive life experience and opportunities to Indigenous Australians through culturally appropriate education, sporting and wellbeing pathways.

Aligning to the Student Services Manager and Boarding Manager, the Administration Trainee is responsible for all aspects of front office reception as well as assisting with young people travel. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attend to all incoming phone calls.
  • Provide administrative support to the leadership team.
  • Direct enquiries and ensuring sign in/out of visitors onsite.
  • Maintain regular and professional communication with families.
  • Assist with document processing and associated administrative tasks.
  • Provide support to AFLCY’s general operations.
  • Assist with the AFLCY House intake process, ABSTUDY support and travel bookings.

To be successful for this role, you will possess:

  • Ability to undertake and complete Certificate III in Business.
  • Good level of communication and interpersonal skills including professional approach to customer service.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with fellow colleagues to achieve a strong team philosophy within the organisation.
  • Attention to detail and ability to correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and have an understanding of privacy requirements.
  • Time management, prioritising and organisational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve minor issues, exercise limited judgement and seek further clarification as required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and ability to maintain professional boundaries with young people.
  • Ability to use MS Office suite of programs.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Current Queensland Working with Children Check “Blue Card” (or eligible to apply), National Police Clearance and Queensland C class driver’s licence.
