Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority Board Members

AUSTRALIAN PESTICIDES AND VETERINARY MEDICINES AUTHORITY (APVMA) BOARD MEMBERS

Applications are sought for part-time non-executive Board Members (three) who are suitably qualified for the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) Board for a term of up to four years.

The APVMA is the Australian Government regulator of agricultural and veterinary (Agvet) chemical products, established in 1993 to centralise the registration of all Agvet chemical products into the Australian marketplace. The APVMA regulates agricultural and veterinary chemicals to manage the risks of pests and diseases for the Australian community and to protect Australia’s trade and the health and safety of people, animals and the environment.

The APVMA Board creates cooperative working relationships and communicates with a wide range of stakeholders, responsible Ministers, and relevant public agencies. Under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Act 1992 and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, the Board will be required to govern the APVMA in a way that:

  • promotes the proper use and management of the public resources for which it is responsible
  • maintains appropriate systems of risk oversight and management
  • achieves the APVMA’s purposes
  • promotes its financial sustainability.

To be considered for appointment to an APVMA Board role, applicants must have appropriate qualifications, skills, or experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • financial management
  • law
  • risk management
  • public sector management
  • science (including agricultural science and veterinary science)
  • public health or occupational health and safety.

In addition, APVMA Board Members ideally will also have the following experience and qualities:

  • experience in setting strategic business direction
  • highly developed business acumen
  • highly developed communication and consultation skills
  • board experience
  • appreciation of governance practices
  • understanding of government.

Total annual remuneration for an APVMA Board Member is currently $47,530 as determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.
