Professional Carer

ABOUT PIC:

The PIC model promotes relational care, offering professional therapeutic support tailored to the complex needs of children and young people. Professional Therapeutic Carers (PTCs) at PIC bring industry-recognised qualifications, extensive professional experience, and a commitment to providing intensive, trauma-informed support.

PTCs are employed with a full-time salary plus a carer’s allowance, supported by a Case Coordinator, an internal Therapeutic Specialist, and a Respite & Recreation Specialist. This model creates a collaborative environment, enabling best-practice therapeutic care.

ABOUT DYLAN:

Dylan is a spirited and resilient 7-year-old Aboriginal boy who inspires everyone he meets. Despite the challenges of cerebral palsy and autism, Dylan’s determination shines through his everyday activities. He has made significant progress in communication, reading, and engaging with music and sensory play. Dylan loves monster trucks, watching footy, and spending time in water, showcasing his adventurous and joyful spirit. Dylan’s warm personality and zest for life bring happiness to all around him.

Names have been changed to protect the child’s identity.

LOCATION:

Dylan’s primary home is in Denham Court, South-West Sydney. He attends school in Campbelltown, and connections to these areas are important for his continuity of care and community.

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate professional with healthcare expertise to support Dylan’s unique needs related to cerebral palsy, autism, and global developmental delay. Unlike a traditional fostering role, this position allows flexibility in care arrangements. The PTC may:

  • Occasionally host Dylan in their home, providing respite for his primary carers.

This role is central to ensuring Dylan’s healthcare, developmental, and emotional needs are met within a safe, supportive environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide hands-on healthcare support tailored to Dylan’s physical and developmental needs.
  • Coordinate and attend medical, therapeutic, and educational appointments.
  • Assist with daily activities, including those requiring specific healthcare knowledge.
  • Provide a nurturing environment during overnight stays or respite care.
  • Collaborate with Dylan’s primary carers and PIC’s professional team to implement care plans.
  • Promote Dylan’s cultural connections and foster positive relationships with his family and community.

WHAT PIC OFFERS YOU:

  • A competitive full-time salary plus a foster carer’s allowance, including access to full FTB benefits and salary packaging.
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing support from PIC’s multidisciplinary team.
  • A unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in Dylan’s life while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience or qualifications in healthcare, particularly in working with children with disabilities, including cerebral palsy and autism.
  • Trauma-informed care practices and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to manage healthcare needs and provide physical care with compassion.
  • Resilience and problem-solving skills, particularly in complex caregiving situations.
  • Commitment to Dylan’s development and well-being, ensuring a consistent and nurturing care environment.
