Your Role

If you’re looking to make a difference with your existing trade qualifications, experience adventure and give back to the community, then the Army Reserve could be for you. You’ll have the opportunity to break out of your everyday role, while still using your skills in exciting new environments.

 

The Army Reserve has a range of part-time trade roles available offering a flexible time commitment. Whether you’re a qualified Carpenter, Plumber or Electrician, you will use your existing skillset to aid the efforts of the Army Reserve, all while gaining new skills that will help you progress in your civilian career.

 

Trade roles are utilised to provide electricity, food, shelter and water to troops while on military exercises and on base. These jobs are crucial in providing the core infrastructure for the broader Army Reserve to assist the community.

Boost your Income

 

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn a minimum of $201/day tax-free.

 

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

 

Location

You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.

Eligibility:
For this role, you must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
  • Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
  • Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
  • Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we’ll give you tips to help you prepare
  • Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
  • Be a qualified tradesperson who has completed an approved apprenticeship/traineeship at a recognised institution
  • For certain roles, additional qualifications may be needed such as a White Card or a Certificate III in your relevant trade
