First Nations Graduate Financial Counsellor

Redfern Legal Centre has an exciting opportunity for a First Nations graduate financial counsellor to join Redfern Legal Centre’s integrated and multidisciplinary Financial Abuse Service (FAS).

  • One year contract, full time or part time
  • $73,177.35 to $84,139.75, depending on qualifications and experience
  • This is an identified role for people of First Nations descent who identify and are accepted as such in the community.

FAS is an innovative and dynamic statewide practice with a specialist and integrated approach that provides holistic legal and non-legal support to clients, increasing their safety and wellbeing and leading to financial independence and empowerment.

We also drive systemic change through test cases, advocacy and law reform.

This position provides an opportunity for a First Nations person completing the Diploma of Financial Counselling to undertake the 220-hour placement and continued employment within FAS.

This role will be trained and mentored by a First Nations Senior Financial Counsellor to provide financial counselling to victim survivors experiencing family and domestic abuse from an intimate partner who are accessing legal assistance from FAS.

The financial counsellor will deliver trauma informed financial counselling services including assessing safety, advocacy and negotiation, provision of information and options, budgeting, capacity building and empowerment, as well as undertake complex casework to resolve financial abuse issues relating to consumer credit, banking, telecommunications, utilities, fines, vehicle registration and other debts.
