Project Officer

Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation (KKPAC) represents the Kabi Kabi peoples, the traditional owners of land that stretch from the North Pine River near Brisbane in the south to Burrum River in the north, near Maryborough out to the Conondale ranges and Kilkivan in the west. Kabi Kabi’s traditional land and waters includes Redcliffe, Bribie Island, the Sunshine Coast, Maryborough, Tiaro, Gympie, Caboolture, Petrie and surrounding areas.

KKPAC is committed to re-building the Kabi Kabi Nation, achieving an economically and culturally strong Kabi Kabi community through capacity building, protecting Kabi Kabi country, culture and language and leveraging benefits for Kabi Kabi people.

We, the directors of KKPAC, are currently organising opportunities to listen and discuss with Kabi Kabi people their opinions, views and concerns in relation to the proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro Project (the Project). In order to achieve this, we are seeking a Project Officer (Full Time) or potentially Project Officers (Part Time) to help facilitate Kabi Kabi engagement.

The Position(s)

KKPAC is facilitating an Indigenous Impact Assessment (IIA) of the Project as part of the Queensland
Government’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Working predominantly at the direction of the Manager (IIA) and reporting regularly through the Manager to the KKPAC Chair and other Directors and in collaboration with consultants employed by KKPAC to help organise the IIA, KKPAC is looking to engage a Kabi Kabi person(s) to assist in the facilitation of Kabi Kabi engagement in relation to the proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro project.  There may be occasions where direction and reporting are through and to the KKPAC Chair and Directors on allocated duties.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  •  Supporting KKPAC directors and consultants to organise consultation activities with the Kabi Kabi community, including by organising meeting venues and spreading information about forthcoming meetings as widely as possible among Kabi Kabi people;
  • Assisting Manager (IIA) and KKPAC directors and consultants at consultation meetings;
  • Working in collaboration with KKPAC’s consultants as required by the IIA Manager and the KKPAC Chair and other Directors.
  • Assist in ensuring that project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within the agreed scope as required by the IIA Manager and the KKPAC Chair and other Directors.
  • Help to prepare and maintain project documentation for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Any other duties as directed by Manager (IIA), the Board and the Directors from time to time.

About You:
KKPAC are seeking a skilled person(s) amongst our group who satisfies the following requirements:

  • For a full-time availability Monday – Friday with Saturday hours an occasional prospect and very rarely Sunday hours (the latter if required and only following discussion).
  • For part-time availability to share availability Monday – Friday with Saturday hours an occasional prospect and very rarely Sunday hours (the latter if required and only following discussion).
  • Known widely in the Kabi Kabi community.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Hold an open driver’s licence

This is a funded position for 12 months and may be a full-time or part-time role based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and will be attractively remunerated.   Periodic travel will be required; however, a vehicle will be provided.
