How this position makes the difference to City of Melbourne…We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a visual and communication design, digital design and human-centred design expert to join our team!

You will support the projects being delivered in the Smart City Office and CityLab team, including the delivery of a service transformation program for City of Melbourne. The purpose of the service transformation program is to consider the future service needs of our customers and define the organisation’s unique value proposition and role delivering to these needs.

You’ll interact with a large variety of projects and lead in designing visual storytelling artefacts and service prototypes that effectively communicate and bring to life a project’s journey and findings to both customers and stakeholders throughout City of Melbourne.

The successful incumbent will have the ability to contribute innovative thinking and design solutions at each phase of the project lifecycle. You will have a keen eye for detail and can work cross-functionally with various teams both internally and externally. With your excellent organisational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, you will be a critical member of every project team you work in.

You will bring… (Selection criteria)

  • Demonstrated experience in visual and communication design with a digital focus. This includes the development of digital products from ideation through to low and high fidelity interactive prototyping based on insights provided from research
  • Demonstrated experience working on project teams using agile delivery methods
  • Strong visual communication and written skills, including development of stand-alone and presentation communication artefacts
  • Ability to create a safe space to explore new ideas that respects diverse perspectives, engenders positivity and favours action-bias.
