The Organisation

Established in 1981, SNAICC is the national non-government peak body in Australia representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Their vision is an Australian society that promotes the rights of indigenous children empowering them to lead healthy, self-determined lives, connected to family and culture.

SNAICC has a dynamic membership of community-based child care, foster care and government agencies, as well as multi-functional early childhood, education and family support services, including reunification services and voluntary associations.

SNAICC also has a network and subscriber base of over 10,000 organisations and individuals from community based services and individuals as well as state and federal agencies nationally who share an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and
their children.

The Role

In its 40th year of operation the new CEO will represent SNAICC nationally in regards to Indigenous policy, reconnecting members to the mission statement and leading the SNAICC team. As an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander leader you will utilise your knowledge of the sector’s history and challenges and play an influential role in building organisational and sector capacity.

You will engage with Indigenous communities, government bodies, service providers and corporates and play a lead role in the lobbying of resources to ensure organisational financial sustainability and to achieve set goals.
In this hands-on yet strategic role you will build on historical successes reporting to an engaged board and with the support of an excellent team you will continue the implementation of the organisational strategy whilst planning for the future.

Skills Required

The successful candidate will be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with senior management experience and a proven track record in organisational development, ideally from within an organisation that promotes the rights and wellbeing of the Indigenous community.

Your previous experience will have given you a good understanding of the sector’s history and challenges and the ability to connect and build relationships with SNAICC’s membership base. You will be a well-respected member of the Indigenous community.

A track record in reporting to a board and leading an organisation that is politically aligned, funded by the government and highly sensitive to its stakeholders will be the key to your success in this role.
