Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Employment Officer to join the Aboriginal Employment Strategy team. Reporting to the Aboriginal Employment Manager, this 6-month maximum term role will be based in Perth.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide HR education, advice and support across the business to effectively manage Aboriginal recruitment, development and retention
  • Build and maintain relationships with the Aboriginal and wider business community (including educational and training institutions, job network providers, dedicated Aboriginal initiatives and pathway programs) to support Chevron Australia’s long-term Aboriginal Employment (AE) strategies
  • Act as a mentor to others to increase cultural awareness in the workplace and help support Aboriginal employee retention
  • Work closely with the Recruitment team utilising various networks and processes to source suitable Aboriginal candidates and support Chevron Australia’s AE plans
  • Review and contribute to the planning, policies and processes that help create a work environment free of barriers to Aboriginal engagement, employment, career advancement and retention
  • Provide supervisory oversight to HR Aboriginal Trainee and Cadet to ensure delivery of required business outcomes and Chevron expectations
  • Coordinate and administer the Cadetship and Traineeship program in line with funding guidelines
  • Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices

Key skills and experience required:

  • Experience in the oil and gas, resources industry or related sectors
  • Project management skills and ability to lead a small team
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across a diverse range of stakeholder groups at all levels of the organisation
  • Experience in the management of complex, challenging issues and the delivery of effective solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify build key relationships and engage with a variety of stakeholders, including universities, schools, education providers and government agencies that contribute to high-class business results
  • Ability to engage with government agencies and funding providers, and knowledge of their systems and processes
  • Experience in writing submissions for awards, program proposals and new initiatives is desirable
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with Aboriginal networking groups
