Aboriginal Employment Officer

Salary: $65,453.44 pro rata

Closing: 5.00pm Friday 8 June 2018

Part time (3 days per week) – Permanent

Greater Shepparton City Council is looking for a suitably qualified and passionate person to fulfil the role of Aboriginal Employment Officer. Reporting directly to the Team Leader People and Workforce and as a key member of the People and Workforce Team, this person will be responsible for continuing to develop and implement an action plan consisting of agreed commitments and actions to guide partnerships between Council and the Aboriginal community, relating directly but not limited to Aboriginal employment and training initiatives.  Duties will include:

  • Undertaking community consultation to identify and support employment initiatives.
  • Review current work practices and make recommendations to encourage and increase Aboriginal employment.
  • Actively source funding opportunities for Aboriginal employment initiatives.
  • Work with stakeholders to create a development framework of work experience, traineeships, apprentices and graduate positions to support Aboriginal career development.
  • Facilitate open days and recruitment workshops for community groups.
  • Support and promote cross cultural training across the organisation.
  • Provide mentoring and support to existing Aboriginal employees.
  • Participate as a member of the People and Development team.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • An understanding of and ability to work with the local Aboriginal community and key stakeholders.
  • The ability to utilise initiative and gain cooperation from key stakeholders in the development, management and successful delivery of projects and initiatives.
  • Well developed communication skills and  sound organisational and time management skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Post secondary qualifications in Community Development, Business or Project Management or Human Resources although desirable is not essential.
